Nowadays, consumers demand information about the origin of the food they consume, about respect and care for the animals employed in the production of food or the sustainability of food products in all production processes.
Since 2009, protocols have been developed that make it possible to assess Animal Welfare in the production and slaughter of poultry, cattle and pigs from a scientific and integrated perspective. This assessment is reflected in the Welfare Quality® protocols. These protocols are based on the assessment of four basic principles: food, accommodation, health and behaviour.
PREMIUMCERT, an Agri-food Product Control and Certification Authority has been entrusted by IRTA, the authority representing Welfare Quality® in Spain, to assess and certify production and slaughter in the poultry and cattle sectors.
